Local, independent computer help
Hello — I’m Markus
I help ordinary people decide whether repair, upgrade or replacement is the honest next step.
Chesham-based · Plain-English advice · No pressure to proceed
Why I built this practice
I have been interested in computers since I was ten, when I got my hands on a Sinclair ZX80. It had 1KB of memory—which is not much use now unless your shopping list is very short—but it taught me something important: computers are not magic. They are a collection of parts and instructions, and when you understand what each part does, most problems become far less mysterious.
Since then I’ve worked with coding, data, Salesforce and business systems. The part I still enjoy most is helping someone understand what is actually wrong — and whether spend beats hype.
I’m based in Chesham and help people across Amersham and the surrounding Chilterns. Many arrive expecting to be told they must buy new. Sometimes they do. Quite often a better path exists.
“I’ll tell you honestly whether fixing beats buying.”
How I work
First, name the real fault
A slow machine is not automatically scrap. Tired storage, full disks, heat, or software that has outgrown the box often explain more than the year on the case. I start with what is happening, explain it plainly, then talk parts or money.
Then, decide with clear economics
If an upgrade gives useful years, I’ll recommend it. If repair is poor value, I’ll say so. If replacement is honest, I’d rather help you buy the right machine than take money for a bad repair.
What “saving” means in practice
I’m not trying to embalm every old machine. Some are worn out, some repairs cost too much, and some people genuinely need newer kit. A student on a demanding creative course is not the same as someone who mainly emails and shops online.
The decision belongs to the person — not the advert. A good older Mac or business laptop may repay an SSD, battery or careful software path. Another machine may have reached the point where further spend is simply poor value.
Technology mixes needs, wants and fashion — I’m not immune either. My job is to explain the practical answer clearly, acknowledge the real world, and leave the decision with you.

By appointment onlyI’m often working on machines or travelling during the day. I review messages personally and normally reply within one working day. If something is genuinely time-sensitive, write urgent in your message.
