Can I still use online banking on Zorin OS or ChromeOS Flex?
Usually yes, through a current supported web browser—provided your bank supports that browser and the computer is properly maintained. Check your own bank’s requirements before switching.
Banks generally care about the browser, encryption and signs of suspicious activity rather than whether the desktop underneath resembles Windows. A current Chrome or Firefox browser on supported Zorin OS, or the current Chrome browser built into supported ChromeOS Flex, can access many UK banking websites.
What keeps it sensible?
- Install operating-system and browser updates promptly.
- Use a computer model that remains supported.
- Type or bookmark the bank’s address rather than following links in messages.
- Use a unique password and the bank’s additional security checks.
- Avoid unknown browser extensions and remote-access requests.
- Keep a secure screen lock and do not share the account.
What could prevent access?
A bank may require a particular supported browser, block an unusual setup during fraud checks or rely on a separate mobile application for approval. ChromeOS Flex does not provide the normal Google Play Android-app experience. Zorin may run web banking perfectly while a bank’s Windows-only helper program does not.
What should I test?
Before removing Windows, start the proposed system from USB where possible. Visit the bank’s genuine website, check sign-in and confirmation steps, and confirm that printing or saving statements works as expected. Do not conduct a real transaction on a shared demonstration system.
My conservative answer
Online banking can be entirely practical on either system, but I would not promise compatibility for every bank, authentication method and old computer. Check the bank, browser, exact hardware and support status together. For high-value business banking, ask the bank what it officially supports.
