Empowering Local Students: Free Desktop PCs for Homework Success

In today’s digital age, having a reliable computer at home isn't a luxury—it's a necessity for schoolwork.

To help bridge the digital divide in our community, I am offering refurbished desktop PCs to school children in the Chesham and Amersham area who need a helping hand with their studies.

This project is run entirely on a voluntary basis.

All hardware is given away free of charge, and I make no profit from this endeavor. My goal is simply to ensure that local students have the tools they need to succeed.

Current Availability & Hardware Details

I currently have some Dell Optiplex 3020 (or similar model) desktop computers ready for a new home immediately. Please note that my stock changes frequently as I receive new donations, so new stock is arriving all the time.

About the PCs

  • Software: These units come with Windows 10 pre-installed—ideal for research, word processing, and online learning.

  • Setup Types: Some of our donations are "All-in-One" units (complete systems), but many are "Tower" base units only.

  • What you might need: For the current Tower units, the recipient will need to source:

    • A monitor

    • A keyboard and mouse

    • A Wi-Fi dongle (if not plugging directly into a router)

    • A Bluetooth dongle (if using wireless accessories)

Pro-Tip: Don't let the need for a monitor or keyboard put you off. These can be found very cheaply (often £5–£10) on Facebook Marketplace or eBay. If you are struggling to find these parts, just let me know—I can help you source them to ensure the student has a complete, working setup.

Turn Your Unused Tech into a Child's Success: Donations Needed

Do you have an old laptop sitting in a drawer or a desktop gathering dust in the spare room? What might be "outdated" to you could be a life-changing tool for a local student.

I am currently seeking donations of computer hardware to refurbish and give away completely free of charge to school children in the Chesham and Amersham area who lack the technology they need for homework and research.

What We Are Looking For

I am collecting hardware to build functional "homework stations." If you have any of the following items, please consider donating:

  • Computers: Laptops and Desktop PCs (Windows or Mac).

  • Screens: Computer monitors (with power cables if possible).

  • Accessories: Keyboards, mice, webcams, and cables.

  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth USB dongles.

  • Games Consoles: I accept these in any condition—even if they are broken or won't turn on!

The 15-Year Rule: To ensure the equipment is powerful enough to run modern educational software, I can only accept hardware that is less than 15 years old.

Why Donate?

Many families in our community are struggling with the high cost of technology. By donating your old gear:

  1. You Support Education: You give a child the ability to complete their schoolwork without stress.

  2. You Reduce Waste: You keep functional electronics out of landfills.

  3. 100% Non-Profit: I make zero profit from this. Every donated item is cleaned, wiped, refurbished, and handed over to a local family in need for free.

    Data Security

I understand that privacy is important. All donated computers will have their data securely wiped before being gifted to a student, ensuring your old files and personal information are completely removed.

How to Donate

If you have items to contribute, please get in touch via email or text or complete the form below.

Because I manage this project around my full-time job, I cannot accept phone calls, but I will reply to your message as soon as possible to arrange a drop-off or collection.

Help us spread the word! If you don't have tech to donate, please share this post with friends, family, or local businesses who might.
